Grading and Performance Feedback

  • Visual Arts Grading

For the 19/20 school year, students in grades 6-8 will receive a grade in visual arts with exception to students who are enrolled in art enrichment classes. Students’ grades in art will serve the purpose of providing feedback to parents and students on their performance in art

The majority of learning in art is project based. Each project is composed of a variety of learning objectives that align with visual arts standards. Art projects will be assessed through the use of a rubric. Each category of the rubric will align with the learning objectives for that particular project. Student’s grades will also be composed of scores that they receive from written assessments. Written assessments will generally cover art related concepts and vocabulary.

In art, it is important for students to be a part of the evaluation process. From time to time, students will also get the opportunity to self assess their artwork using a rubric. Self assessment is a valuable component to a student’s growth because it allows them to reflect on their personal performance.

Below I have included a grading scale for grades and a sample project rubric.
