¡Bienvenidos!
My name is Ana Rodríguez (Profesora Rodríguez) and I'm excited to bring Spanish to Millburn Middle School!
From the moment I met my students, I fell in love with being in a middle school and being surrounded by the amazing and unique culture Millburn has to offer. I have been enjoying getting to know Millburn, the students, staff and our traditions.
I grew up in Round Lake Beach as a child in a Spanish speaking home filled with family. I found my passion for teaching at a very young age when I would play school with my abuelita and I would teach her English and in exchange, I learned to read and write in Spanish. There was no other feeling in the world than the feeling of teaching someone to speak another language. I still get goosebumps when I witness my students having conversations in Spanish. It makes me so happy that I can share my love for Spanish with them and prepare them for even more wonderful experiences with the language and culture in their high school years and beyond.
Loving to teach led me to earning a BSE in teaching Spanish and English as well as a Master's in Administration. I have been teaching Spanish since 1997 and have taught in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois. Most recently I have worked at many wonderful schools in the area such as Lakes Community High School, Antioch Community High School and Grant Community High School as a long term substitute for maternity leaves as well as day to day subbing.
Before that, I most recently worked at Warren Township High School. In 2009 I left Warren and took a 5 year leave from teaching to raise my 2 year old twins and newborn baby. At the time, I was a mother of 3 under 27 months and didn't want to miss a moment with them! Fast forward several years and my twins are now 10 and my newborn baby just turned 8!
My husband and I have lived in the area for the past 11 years and are enjoying raising our family here. When I'm not at Millburn Middle School you can find me across the parking lot watching my youngest daughter play soccer, watching my son play football or on the sidelines of a softball diamond cheering on my oldest daughter.
I look forward to a wonderful year at Millburn Middle School. I'm committed to your child's success and encourage you to keep in touch so that we may both work together toward's his/her success.
