Community Garden
The garden is volunteer based with a mission to provide a variety of gardening experiences, learning, and memories to share. The garden uses organic methods for growing and caring for plants. This creates gardens without strong chemicals or materials which can affect the soil, plants, and visitors whom come and work in the garden. Donations to the local food banks come from the Victory Garden Beds. Weekly harvests and disbursements start in June when herbs and spring veggies are ripe.
The garden is divided into two sections, the school lab area and the community plot section.
The school lab area has multiple exhibit gardens that model uses of gardens. The Three Sisters Garden demonstrates companion plantings used by Native Americans. Corn, squash, and bean plants growing together share traits from each plant that help the other plants succeed. The Rainbow Garden has season changing flowers which display the order and beauty of the rainbow. The Butterfly Garden grows a variety of plants attractive to many local pollinators. The Sensory Garden has plantings and structures which tease the five senses. Several other show gardens are also onsite.
The community section has plots for annual rent. These plots, large and small, are available for any family or neighbor to use during the growing season. Most are filled with annual veggies which the gardener tending uses for home meals. Donations to local food banks comes from these gardens as well as from the Victory Beds.
The Garden is open from sunrise to sunset. Visitors are invited to come look, walk the paths, and breathe in the scents but not to leave with anything else.
