MTSS
What is MTSS?
MTSS is defined as, "A comprehensive continuum of evidence-based, systematic practices to support a rapid response to students' needs, with regular observation to facilitate data-based instructional decision making." (Title IX, Sec. 8002(33))
The WHAT: MTSS, a framework that provides schools with structures for designing multi-tiered systems of support and the alignment of resources across all areas of academic and social well-being.
The WHY: Equity, access, and inclusivity for ALL students
The HOW: Academic & social well-being supports are in place for the tiers
Tier 1- Universal Support (ALL)
Tier 2- Targeted Support (SOME)
Tier 3- Intensive (FEW)
MTSS Tiers
The three tiers in MTSS incorporate what we already know about RTI and PBIS and best practices in instruction aligned to Common Core Standards and meeting students' academic, behavioral and SEL needs.
MTSS tiers are fluid and it is expected that through progress monitoring and targeted instruction students will move between groups as they meet their goals, or as needs increase/intensify. For example, if data shows progress or regression, layers of support and intervention can be added or reduced.
