**PLEASE THINK BEFORE:
Sending your child to school if you have taken them to the doctor in the a.m. and/or sick call due to
illness. They can still feel ill, even if they do not have a temp. or diagnosis.
Sending your child to school if you have to medicate them with Tylenol/Motrin or cough medicine.
Once it wears off, they will visit the Health Office and you will be hearing from us.
Sending your child to school after having dental work, braces out on, or oral surgery. Once the local or
medication wears off, they can be miserable.
**PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:
If your child has had an injury after school or on the weekend and they visit a physician/urgent care or
emergency room, please get a note from the doctor with the diagnosis and activity restrictions for
gym/recess. Also, if they need a brace, boot, ace wrap, special dressing or using crutches etc., a note is
needed with the accommodations that are needed for the student to attend school. If your child has
gym restrictions they will also be out of recess and will go to the Media Center during recess.
If your child goes home not feeling well or is sent home sick from the Health Office, they will not be able
to attend any after school activities or participate in concerts/talent show, etc. that are scheduled in the
evening.
**STUDENT HEALTH GUIDELINES
Please be advised that if your child has any of the symptoms below, he or she should NOT attend school:
- Fever – 100* or more
- Rash – unknown origin
- Persistent Sore throat
- Persistent Cough
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Diarrhea
A child who has recently been ill should meet the Lake County Health Department’s guidelines below before returning to school, attending athletic events, or any other after school activities:
- Feeling better for 24 hours, symptoms resolving/resolved
- Maintain a temperature below 100* for 24 hours without medication
- Free of vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours after last episode
- Be on an antibiotic medication for at least 24 hours from diagnosis of strep throat
- Be on prescription antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours from diagnosis of conjunctivitis (pinkeye)
If a child has missed 3 or more consecutive days due to illness, a Dr’s note will be requested.
Please notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness such as Covid, strep throat, chickenpox, scarlet fever, conjunctivitis (pinkeye), influenza A or B, lice, pertussis (whooping cough), impetigo, Fifth Disease, or Hand, Foot & Mouth disease. We have students with low immunity and contagious disease can further compromise their health.
To keep children healthy, make sure they have plenty of rest and a nutritious diet. Make sure they are dressed properly for indoors and outdoors.
The most important things you can do to keep your child free of illness is to teach them how to:
1. WASH HANDS. The proper way is to use soap and rub hands together for at least 15 seconds, then rinse in running water and dry them thoroughly. And in addition, use hand sanitizer.
2. COUGH & SNEEZE IN ELBOW. This technique prevents the spray of germs to your classmates and teacher.
Please help us keep our students healthy by keeping a sick child at home.
Remember, one sick child can spread illness to their classmates rapidly.
Thank you for your cooperation.
