Great Websites for Kids This page can help your student find appropriateß information for themselves. The main page is divided into Subject related categories. The students can select where they need to go. All linked pages are rated (by way of colored pencils) what the target grade level the information is . This site is supported by the American Library Association, so it appears to have a good selection of material.

Enchanted Learning This fun site for kids is packed with educational tidbits. The topics covered range from dinosaurs to explorers. You could easily find sites on dozens of subjects that you would like to book mark for your students.

National Geographic for Kids This relates largely to Sciene and Social Studies, but covers many topics. Its worth taking a look at often, because they change their featured articles and activities regularly.

Fun Brain One of the best online sites for kids, this site provides excellent games for different subject areas.  Teachers can also create quizzes that kids can take.

Time for Kids Online magazine full of news articles, polls, games, and more just for kids

Kids.Gov It provides links to Federal kids' sites along with some of the best kids' sites from other organizations all grouped by subject. Explore, learn, have fun! No pop up adds, and the content is screen for appropriate materials.

Gamequarium Game links for grades K-6 relating to all curriular areas and more!

Body Works Games Fun online games you can play to learn about a variety of topics related to how the human body works. You'll need the free Flash Player.

The Great Plant Escape This page was developed by the University of Illinos. It has step by step "Plant Mysteries" for your students to solve. Each "case" has goals, background, activities, and self-quizzes.

In Search of the Way of the Knowing Trail This site is an interactive ecological journey developed by Brookfield Zoo. Your jeep breaks down on your way to the remote village of Epulu in central Africa. You along with four youths from different local cultures are forced to walk through the Ituri Forest to get there. Together you'll have to navigate the forest by foot to arrive at Epulu. In the process you'll learn about plants, animals, and survival.

Switcharoozoo "Create crazy animals that could never exist at this surrealistic virtual zoo!" You can add a Language Arts twist to this activity by asking you students to create a "diary" about this animal's habitat, eating habits, enemies, adaptations, etc.

"Ology - The Study of... Fantastic, fun and educational site! Interactive games teach about astronomy, paleontology, and other "ologies."

Electronic Zoo An amazing list of animal-related computer resources. Check and see if your favorite animals have been digitized!

EdHeads A website where you can conduct actual knee and hip surgeries.  You can also learn about weather and simple machines.  A very interactive website.

Castles of the World This site has a slew of information about castles. Featured are sections on castle architecture and an annotated directory of castles around the world. Younger folks should also check out the virtual castle tour for kids.

History Place This well-designed site has extensive exhibits on the American Civil War, WW II, and other major periods. Each exhibit offers informative essays, timelines, and photos. The content changes frequently as new exhibits are added.

Geography IQ GeographyIQ is an online world atlas packed with geographic, economic, political, historical and cultural information."

World Almanac Find out facts about all countries of the world.  Look at flags from different countries.  Contests, games, quizzes.

Civil Rights/Civil War Tour the Historic South or learn more about the Underground Railroad.  Visit one of the many NPS sites dedicated to preserving African American heritage.  Information about the many NPS books and magazines on Black History

Cash Out Students work a cash register to give change.  You can choose the difficulty and choose whether or not to show how much change needs to be made.  Then, the students must click on the correct coins needed to make the right amount of change

Sudoku Differing levels of difficulty and millions of different puzzles for this popular game.

Math Puzzles The AIMS Puzzle Corner provides over 100 interesting puzzles that can help students learn to enjoy puzzles and the mathematics behind them. The puzzles are categorized by type, and within each category are listed in order of increasing difficulty. The puzzles have have not been assigned a grade level appropriateness because we have discovered that the ability to do a puzzle varies by individual not grade level

Math Lizard MATH FACTS!! Students can practice online and print results which is a great way for them to know what facts they need to practice. Or, you can generate math fact worksheets (with answer sheets available).

Reading

American Folklore This folklore site contains retellings of American folktales, Native American myths and legends, Tall Tales, weather folklore and ghost stories from each and every one of the 50 United States."

PE/Health

KidNetic Awesome site with info about exercise, eating, and staying healthy.  Includes a “fitness challenge” that you can try while sitting at the computer – try to beat 2 minutes!!!  Also includes healthy recipes and activities to stay healthy and information about your body.

Kids Health This site helps parents, children, and professionals find answers to commonly asked health questions. Topics include the benefits of different types of vitamins, the food pyramid, healthy children's recipes, how to read food labels, and keeping fit. Children can also submit their own questions. Check out the "Childhood Infections" section under "Parents" for information about appendicitis, meningitis, mumps, and more. For a good laugh, be sure to read the entry for that most common of all childhood afflictions, cooties. A great site but be patient this site may take a little longer to download.

Kids in Action Kids will have fun exploring the site's "Actionland" with games designed to motivate them to spend more time on-the-move and introduce them to more ways to be active

SI for Kids Sports Illustrated has designed this site for intermediate/middle school age children interested in the latest information on the hottest sports. The site includes newsclips, puzzles, sports games, and comics.
